Fullday (8hours) Priene, Miletus and Didyma - Ancient Sites
- Meet with your guide in front of the Kusadasi port passenger Terminal. Following the departure from the pier, the first stop will be Priene. The ancient harbor city of Priene probably changed its location when the silt of the Meander River threatened to bury it. Now it is nearly 16km away from the sea. The original place of the city has never been found but it was probably a peninsula with two harbors. Priene was laid out on a Hippodamian system of grid plan at the foot of a spectacular cliff on mount Mycale and contained many famous examples of Hellenistic art and architecture. All the streets intersect at right angles. Next visit Miletus, an ancient city located near the present Akköy at the mouth of the Buyuk Menderes (meander) River. Miletus owed its importance to its position on the trade routes. It was one of the largest cities in Anatolia. Highly prosperous, it founded many colonies and was the home of the ancient philosophers Anaximander, Anaximenes and Thales, the town planner Hippodamus and architect Isidorus. Having a prominent position, Miletus became the most important port in this area and it was the most active member of the twelve cities of the Ionian Confederation. From the 7th century B.C. the city has been controlled in turn by the Persians, Roman and Seljuk Turks. The last visit in the tour will be Didyma. The world Didyma meant "twins" and it was associated by some as being the meeting place of Zeus and Leto to have their twins Apollo and Artemis. Didyma was famed as a prophecy center dedicated to Apollo, which served a similar purpose as the Delphi of Anatolia. It was not a city but a sanctuary linked to Miletus by Milesians with a 12 mile sacred road.

The most spectacular building of Ephesus is the Grand Theater, built during the Hellenistic age to hold 24,000 spectators. It is there that St. Paul preached. Opposite the Temple of Hadrian are the Hill Houses, homes of Ephesus' wealthy citizens. The city was also the hometown of great philosopher Heraclitus. After a visit to Ephesus Antique Site, you will arrive at Sirince Village. This old Orthodox Village, 30 km from Kusadasi, was once "Cirkince"(ugly). Indeed its inhabitants gave this name on the purpose as they did not want to be bothered by foreigners nor to share the beauty of their village. Still after years, visitors understood that the village was not ugly and called it "Sirince" (pretty). Today the village is a perfect synthesis of Turkish-Greek culture as of the 1920's; after the Turkish Independence War, people exchange between Greek and Turks has occurred and all those typical Greek houses, though they kept their original outside characteristics, have received the local layout inside. At Sirince Village you will have chance of seeing the local life at a village and purchasing some small local souvenirs and handicrafts. The village is also famous for its local grape and other fruit wines. During the lunch, mingle with the local people of the village. Have a cup of traditional Turkish coffee at the main coffee house of the village. Your last stop will be the visit to the Archaeological Museum of Ephesus established in 1929. It displays very interesting and valuable finds from Ephesus.

THE ANCIENT CITY OF PERGE AND ASPENDOS – FULLDAY TOUR 8HRS

Board your motorcoach to journey back in time to the ancient city of Perge, founded by Greek settlers following the Trojan Wars. Alexander the Great briefly used Perge as a base of operations, and St. Paul visited the city during his missionary journeys. The site was abandoned during the Arab invasions of the 7th century.

As you approach Perge, the 2nd century Roman amphitheater comes into view. Visit the stadium, one of the best preserved in all of Eastern Mediterranean, on this site you can see the city ramparts and the Roman city gate complex, the most fascinating part of the city. Also see the Nymphaion, the Propylaion, the baths and the agora.

Continue by coach to Aspendos, which boasts a complete aqueduct system, parts of which are still standing, also the most well-preserved ancient Roman Theater in the world is here. As many as 20,000 people can be seated here and the acoustics is so good that a whisper or even a pin drop can be heard from the very top gallery. The theater is still used today for concerts and theatrical presentations.

Enjoy lunch at the Belek country club, set in beautiful landscape gardens and specializing in modern innovative Turkish cuisine.

In the afternoon continue to Antalya, the ancient Attalia. Drive thru the modern day town and the old town, before returning back to your ship.

SIDE & ASPENDOS – FULLDAY TOUR 8HRS

After meeting your guide, depart port and drive through the fertile lands to the Ancient City of Side.  In the language of Anatolia "Side" means Pomegranate. From inscriptions it appears that Side dates back to the Hittite Period. The city was constructed on a peninsula and was a Hellenistic and Roman town, protected by city and sea walls. One's attention is particularly drawn to the city gates and walls, as well as many remains of aqueducts which brought water from the foothills of the Taurus Mountains and the surrounding country. Explore the beatifully preserved 15,000 spectator amphitheater, colonnaded streets, old city walls, roman baths, fountains, cisterns, aquaducts, temples and agora.

I wanted to take this opportunity to express my deep satisfaction. We just returned from an East Mediterrean cruise on Legend of the Seas. You arranged for our private tours in Ephesus. The guide we had on the trip was very knowledgable, personable and very accomodating to our needs. Your prices beat the cruise ship everytime and we had our own private van for four which was such a treat. We were able to stay as long as we wanted at each site and walked at our own pace. We never felt rushed!!

I have recommended you to all my friends and travel agent. We plan to return someday to your spectacular country on a land tour so we can concentrate on Turkey which has so very much to offer its visitors. We will definitely be contacting you for our future plans. I wish you continued success in your endeavors. Keep up the great work!!

We absolutely loved our day in Ephesus.  Our guide, Sam and driver were both very cordial and kind, we loved the countryside and everything we were taken to see.  In fact, of all the stops on our Mediterranean cruise (Rome, Florence, south of France, Naples, Athens, several Greek Islands), Ephesus was our favorite place. What a wonderful surprise Turkey was to us!  I even wandered to the market afterwards (a single woman, alone) and the people at the market were very friendly and nice to me as well, not bothersome as in some other country's markets.  We were very impressed with Turkey and would love to come back.  I would not miss an opportunity to advise others to use your company, Please know that I will take advantage of all chances this Winter and Spring (when people are planning their 2007 cruises) to recommend your company.

We just returned from our European vacation and wanted to let you, and anyone else who plans to visit Turkery, know how pleased we all were with the two tours we booked with you. We were the first ones off the boat and were gone while all those who booked with the cruise line were still gathering in the ships lounges. We docked earlier than expected and your guides were already there with their signs to meet us. Through out the day we were always a step ahead of all those big groups who booked their tours with the cruise line so we had extra time at the end of the day. Your guides showed us other sites and we went shopping!  We know, being from the most popular vacation destination in the world ourselves, how there is so much to see in the short time allowed for shore excursions. We would let others know that these are unsolicited comments and that we would highly recommend your tours to anyone planning to visit your country.

Both my family and I were truly impressed by both of these wonderful, gracious and knowledgeable guides. The experience of sharing both your country and their knowledge was far more than we had expected. On at least 8 occasions since our return to Canada we have raved about their abilities as well as their hospitality. In addition, at least 4 people have already asked for your web site info as well as your direct e-mail address. Simply put, we could not have been treated better. The drivers were courteous and efficient, the AC vehicles were spotless and comfortable and the guides were, as Omar would put it, truly "world class". On any return to your country, you would be the first people we would turn to for guidance and assistance in putting together a Turkish Experience. The experiences with them were the absolute highlights of our 7 day journey to the Eastern Med.
